Skincare Solutions

My clients often often ask me what they should be using on their face. There is a $135 billion global business in skincare dealing with the dozens of problems with ageing, acne, rosacea, allergic, dermatitis, psoriasis, vitiligo, dry skin etc so no wonder it is a minefield.

Soap and water will not give you skin success, but it would be a dream if that were true? In truth, soap and water is one of the worse things you can use. Conventional soaps will strip your natural oils and disrupt the pH of your skin and damage the skin barrier, which can cause dryness and irritation.

My personal skincare history is far from perfect, prior to becoming a Holistic Therapist I had used every high street and many luxury brands you could think of (and yes soaps too). Up to 30 years I had near perfect skin, but then suddenly started with adult acne and rosacea. I was prescribed topical steroids and medication for a good few years (and in hindsight it never really was the answer to solving the issues) it just exacerbated the problem at the time.

Becoming a Holistic Therapist 6 years ago really changed everything, so since conquering the conundrum, I now help others with their skincare solutions. These days I get compliments on my skin quite often, you can view my photo on the About page, virtually no fine lines and barely any make up on. After training and educating myself and qualifying as a Skincare Consultant I try to help every client that asks me for advice, so if you want to escape that merry go round please read on.

My absolute top tip, is that I recommend you use natural and certified organic ingredients wherever possible. You can receive a free skincare consultation with any facial booking here at Bliubell Holistic (when we are out of lockdown of course).

In the meantime, choosing natural and organic (certified and ethically sourced) and being consistent with skincare is the main way to achieving great skin. It really doesn’t have to take too much of your time.

Question: Why do so many skincare problems exist? Because most skincare products contain ingredients to make you depend upon re-purchasing more of them. An industry that makes £135 billion are reaping the monetary benefits, a mass production containing silicones, plastics, petroleum, etc that all damage the acid mantle (that is your body’s own defense and vital biological process). Once you start it is a vicious cycle to solve your skincare problems……… and prompting you to buy more and more is a good way of making $135 billion right?!

Switching to organic skincare gave my skin the rest it needed from all those nasty chemicals. For years I had “sensitive skin” which is actually wrong (those products were the culprit causing the sensitivity!). People will tell you that “sting you feel” is the product doing “a deep clean of your skin”. NOT TRUE, that “sting”, is your skin telling you “hey I didn’t like what you just gave me there!”

For me after changing to organic skincare, within months all of my skin problems disappeared. At the Neal’s Yard Organic Shop there is a range of organic skincare products, though my Top Favourite is the Wild Rose Beauty Balm – a “One-Stop Pot” solution for every day, from morning, noon to night and perfect for travelling too. This product is my absolute go to and a “great detox” for your skin. With celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Kate Moss, Thandie Newton, Jade Jagger using Neal’s Yard and Geri Halliwell-Horner who uses the Wild Rose Beauty Balm.

The Wild Rose Beauty Balm is an exfoliating but gentle cleanser (comes with an organic muslin cloth to clean your skin), it removes all traces of makeup and any gunk that is embedded in your skin. This is a balm and will not emulsify, so use the warmed damp muslin cloth as you cleanse your skin.

For a more intensive and nourishing treatment, you can re-apply the balm and use this as a facial mask, try leaving it on perhaps for 30 minutes whilst you catch up on your latest program or a soak in the tub. This is perfect if your skin is particularly dry and needs that little TLC.

You use this as a moisturiser too, or for a bit of glow, highlight your cheekbones, tame any stray hairs, eyebrows and use it on your lips. Doing all of this absolutely gave me the relief to all my facial issues, the acne and rosacea completely went away within months.

The balm is an all-rounder and if your skin is unsettled with dry, dehydrated, or whatever else, this is truly your saviour. You only need the tiniest amount to apply to your face and neck and this tub will last you easily 3-4 months.

The Wild Rose Beauty Balm is packed with certified organic ingredients to include rosehip oil, jojoba oil, beeswax, shea butter, hemp seed oil, starflower oil, geranium flower oil, rosemary leaf oil, frankincense and palmarosa herb oil………. and more…. It is loaded with essential fatty acids, pro-vitamin A, it absorbs beautifully like butter into your skin and suitable for all skin types but especially beneficial if you have normal to dry or a slightly older skin. You can purchase this One-Stop pot via the Neal’s Yard Organic Shop or try a smaller pot that is in the mini skincare kit which will last you a good few weeks. Anyone that has used this product will tell you how gorgeous the fragrances are from Neal’s Yard and in particular the Wild Rose Beauty Balm

I am not going to push anyone to choose one brand over another, I think it is only natural to try different things every now and then so long as it is good for you. For those of you who are willing to invest in their skin regime the classic Cleanse, Tone and Moisturise is what will give you that long term skin success. Some days I do myself a little extra but not 7-steps as even for me that can be a lot. Long gone, are the days when I didn’t even want to show my face with all the redness or spots. In reality those products were actually causing it and this is why I will always choose organic

Nowadays “maskne” may occasionally flare up, but I would use the Wild Rose Beauty Balm to solve it, this is a healing balm and is certainly my go to choice for any of you looking for a skincare solution.

Every one of us will have different types of skin and changes with lifestyle, environment and self-care routines will affect the overall condition, so it is important to review your regime regularly.
